September Self-Care 2021: Plan a fun Activity for Yourself!

What fun activity will you plan and do today?
This morning I woke up and did my daily morning self-care practice of meditation and then I thought I would do a quick listen to an audiobook I am reading on nonviolence. Another book caught my eye though. Audible puts out a monthly series called Music+Words where a musician talks about their life and shares a bit of their music. I love these partly because they are artists I typically love, partly because they are free (with my membership -a little perk I guess), and partly because this series gives me some time for quick pleasure reads.
You see I often am reading philosophy or psychology or personal development books and this series is always a nice little fun break for me. This morning after meditating, I thought I would listen to a bit of this program to start the book, but it was so good I completed it. Then I got up to do my self-care video series and found out the prompt today was to block away a little time to do a fun activity for yourself.
I thought, wow! How fitting I found this book this morning and blocked out time to listen to it before I started my day.
These days I am more able to find little pockets of time to practice self-care. I wasn’t always like this and the lack of self-care may have been a primer for my depression years ago. The artist today was Laura Jane Grace and the title is Black Me Out.
I’ve been a little fan of Laura, her work, and her story for a while now. The read this morning lead to a more in depth understanding of her own struggles with depression and her journey coming out and transitioning to a woman.
It is a powerful story. I highly recommend it if you know her and like her music or if you are someone seeking a story of overcoming challenges and especially if you are in the LGBTQ+ community or trans and thought about transitioning or have already done so. I think it will resonate. Learn more here.
I find stories like this powerful. I think we all have a powerful story inside us that we need to get out and share with the world. I feel it is our duty to some degree because we can help others not quite as far down the path as we are and in doing so truly help them. I know this book will help many. Your story will too.
Beyond that, self-care also means having fun and doing activities you enjoy. Some make some time today for a fun activity you enjoy doing. Here is my video today sharing my thoughts on this and as I mentioned what I did today that was fun and for me.
Maybe do a Google search for Fun Activities if you are drawing a blank. You might be surprised what comes up and how easy this might be. If you have a family, maybe you include them and you do something together, but remember this is about you so do not do something that only serves others.
Family-time can BE a fun activity. Here is a list of 101 Fun Things to Do at Home with Your Kids that might help get the juices flowing for yourself and including them.
Maybe a fun activity is trying Yoga
